What happened to those who managed to survive the atomic bombing?

Somehow, there were students who miraculously survived the atomic bombing, leaving dying friends behind. The memories of their friends and the other people who died there and then have haunted them, and they have never felt peace of mind since then. They have been suffering as much as those who died from the bombing.
