Generally speaking, most Japanese are more or less familiar with what the atomic bombing brought about to the cities and their residents of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, in August, 1945. After reading or hearing the accounts of the survivors, most of us are reassured that the war should not be repeated. At the same time, we feel so sad and somewhat miserable to know about all the suffering that the people experienced that we sometimes try to forget such tragic memories as we do with our own sad experiences in our lives.
On the other hand, we have realized that most of the people from abroad who now live in Japan or people who live in foreign countries do not know much about the real impact that the atomic bombing had on the lives of people who lived there in those days. Yet, today we all feel threatened by nuclear weapons owned by a few nations in the world, since the nuclear bombs of today are said to be thousands of times stronger than the ones dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We feel scared without knowing exactly what kinds of effects they would actually have on human beings.
We feel it is our mission to convey the accounts of the atomic bombing survivors to as many people as possible around the world. By knowing these real stories, we believe that we will be able to realize the actual impact the nuclear weapons have on human beings to some extent.
